General Birchmark
Our Story
General Birchmark exists because of a small frustration: most handbags are designed to be noticed, and only afterwards to be carried.
We started from the other end. One silhouette family, worked on until it was right, and then offered in the six colours we would actually want to own. Every piece is a shoulder bag in premium PU vegan leather, lined in polyester twill, closing with a top zip, with a 55 cm adjustable strap so it can be worn on the shoulder or across the body.
Colour is the collection
Most brands treat colour as an afterthought — a black bag, then a brown one, then something bright for summer. We treat it as the point. Blush that behaves like a neutral. A sage that sits beside navy, camel, cream and black without competing with any of them. A cobalt that is a proper colour without being loud. A ruby that reads dressy at night and professional by day. An emerald for the occasions. An ivory that is warm rather than stark.
Quality over quantity
Six pieces, not sixty. Working this small means every decision gets argued about: where the pockets sit, whether a base needs reinforcing, whether hardware should be gold or silver on a particular colour. The Emerald is the only piece in silver-tone, because gold was wrong against that green. That is the kind of call you only get to make when the range is small enough to think about properly.
Vegan by default
There is no animal leather anywhere in the collection. Premium PU throughout, chosen and finished so it holds its shape and does not read flat or plasticky in daylight — which is the usual giveaway at this end of the market.
Made to be used
Every bag arrives in a dust bag with a care card. The care notes on each product page are specific to that colour, because a pale ivory asks for different handling than a deep ruby. We would rather tell you that honestly than pretend a bag looks after itself.
We don't make hundreds of bags. We make a few exceptional ones.
